Shiva’s Shakti and Charon

Here we are.. super excited with the  close up pictures of Pluto recently released by NASA, along with its moon Charon. And ofcourse, the nearly perfect heart shape on the surface of Pluto.

This brings me back to think about pluto in Indian astrology where it is being believed to be symbolic of Shiva energy.

Much has been already written about the similarity between Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and the trinity Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva in astrology. Particularly Pluto and Shiva, where both are lords of destruction, death, regeneration, transformation. Pluto is the lord of underworld, all that is secret, undercover, occult. And so is Shiva.  As the saying goes, all in the world, that is rejected by other deities, is Shiva’s.

But here I intend to take this a notch further, and write about the Pluto’s main moon Charon. It is still under debate whether to refer Charon as a moon of Pluto or to consider the pair as a Binary system in the sky. I may be opinionated, but I feel strongly about the later one. Here are the reasons why:

Pluto and Charon are in a mutual tidal lock phenomenon where both are revolving around each other. This reminds me of the eternal pair of Shiva and Shakti. This tidal lock is also a rare one where both the objects keep same face towards each other throughout, just like the a love struck couple facing each other and moving in circles.

Pluto and Charon are also distinguishable with the typical masculine and feminine traits. Charon is just a little more than half of pluto in size and mass of Charon is much lesser. This is in much contrast to all other moons of pluto that are just simply tiny compared to Charon.

Above may just be an opinion, but can you deny?
